Data Services for Funded Research
The 2013 OSTP memo required Federal Agencies with more than $100 Million in R&D expenditure to develop plans to:
- Make published results of federally funded research freely available to the public within one year of publication
- Require researchers to better account for and manage digital data resulting from federally funded research
- The institution of Data Management Plans was one outcome
- The Development of Public Access Repositories and the Requirement to deposit publications was another outcome
We are here to help primary investigators (or PIs) to be in compliance with funder mandates to make their data and publications publicly accessible. The Research Data Management Services (RDMS) team at the library and the Office of Sponsored Programs (SPO) assist PIs in these processes.
The graphic (below) shows how theses processes fit into managing grants and publications:
The Data Librarian works with the Office of Research and the Division of Sponsored Programs to track the products of funded research through the lifecycle of an award. This process is initiated by Sponsored Programs contacting the Data Librarian to create records for tracking the products of research. Sponsored Programs and the Data Librarian work collaboratively to communicate with faculty who have received grant awards.
