Wheaton et al. (2019) developed a set of Riverscape and Restoration Principles that build on process-based restoration principles developed by Beechie et al. (2010) to guide LTPBR. The intent of these principles was to replace overly precise prescriptions for restoration with a more nuanced appreciation for the dynamic nature and processes that lead to healthy riverscapes. The authors contend that if these principles are integrated into restoration planning, design, implementation, and monitoring, restoration outcomes are more likely to be sustainable (and that understanding these principles are more important than precise details of structure design and prescriptive outcomes). Your assignment is to 1) demonstrate you understand the principles, 2) describe whether you support the principles, or not, and why (or detail limitations/omissions in the principles), and 3) use examples from your own experience, a restoration project you've read about, or a hypothetical restoration project to demonstrate how one riverscape principle and one restoration principle could improve or compromise the project depending on what your argument is (i.e., pro or con).
Limit your answer to 2 pages, single spaced, and provide a shared URL to your assignment as a Google Doc (and grant permissions for edit access with the link). We will provide comments in your Google Doc.
