Module 3.2 - Lectures & Reading

Module 3.2Risk Assessment, Condition Assessment & Recovery Potential

This module we focuses on identifying potential risks and negative impacts from restoration implementation and conducting a condition assessment focused on hydrologic, geomorphic, riparian, and biological attributes. Once the condition of a riverscape is determined we try to determine it's current trajectory (is it getting worse, stable, improving), and recovery potential (i.e., can we restore natural processes).

Objectives

  1. Access, review, and discuss a set of tools and available online resources to assist in determining riverscape condition including the valley bottom assessment tool (VBET), height above nearest drainage area (HAND/TAU DEM), the beaver restoration assessment tool (BRAT), the riparian condition assessment tool (RCAT).
  2. Be able to identify and assess risk and recovery potential.
  3. Develop clear goals and measurable objectives for restoration projects.
