Module 3.2 - Lectures & Reading
This module we focuses on identifying potential risks and negative impacts from restoration implementation and conducting a condition assessment focused on hydrologic, geomorphic, riparian, and biological attributes. Once the condition of a riverscape is determined we try to determine it's current trajectory (is it getting worse, stable, improving), and recovery potential (i.e., can we restore natural processes).
Objectives
- Access, review, and discuss a set of tools and available online resources to assist in determining riverscape condition including the valley bottom assessment tool (VBET), height above nearest drainage area (HAND/TAU DEM), the beaver restoration assessment tool (BRAT), the riparian condition assessment tool (RCAT).
- Be able to identify and assess risk and recovery potential.
- Develop clear goals and measurable objectives for restoration projects.
