ILO-7. Accessing data using web services via HydroDesktop

Learning Objectives

1. Install HydroDesktop and the R statistics package.
2. Use HydroDesktop to search for data on the CUAHSI Hydrologic Information System, 
3. Use HydroDesktop to download and visualize hydrologic data 
4. Use HydroDesktop to delineate watersheds and create maps of a study area
5. Use HydroDesktop to analyze data and prepare graphs of results.  

Computer and Data Requirements

• You will need to download HydroDesktop from http://www.hydrodesktop.org/ Links to an external site. 
• You will also need to download and install R from http://r-project.org/ Links to an external site. 

The Problem

Using the data and instructions in the attached document, analyze the well data from Jacob's Well. (HydroDesktop Exercise Document Link).  Create appropriate graphs and maps indicating the drainage area and monitoring data. Use the R plugin in HydroDesktop to determine the fraction of well water which is likely from surface sources.

Deliverable

Create a one page summary of your results with attachments showing your graph and map results. If you can generate all of the output figures in the exercise you will receive full credit for the analysis portion of this ILO. Additional figures and maps which enhance your presentation will be considered for extra credit.
