6. Sharing data via the CUAHSI Hydrologic Information System
- Due Nov 6, 2016 by 11:59pm
- Points 100
- Submitting a file upload
- Available Oct 25, 2016 at 12am - Nov 30, 2016 at 11:59pm
Learning Objectives
- Configure a CUAHSI HydroServer for a new organization
- Organize variables and site data on the HydroServer ODM
- Enter data on the HydroServer and create visualizations through the HydroServer graphing tool
Computer and Data Requirements
- Computer with Internet access
- Data that you will collect yourselves
Task
Over the next few days, create your own observation data set. You can collect any hydro-climate time series data you find interesting. You must record the latitude and longitude of the site where you collect the data, also take a digital photo of the site. Examples of data include:
- Hourly temperature outside your apartment
- Hourly cloud cover at your office window
- Hourly streamflow in a nearby creek or river (use a simple “toss and time” an apple or stick to get a best estimate)
Collect at least 10 measurements of at least 2 variables.
Create a new HydroServer on http://worldwater.byu.edu/ Links to an external site. (watch instructions in class on Tuesday). Name your HydroServer "2016Class-yourname". Configure the server with your variables and sites. Enter the data. Create a map and a graph of the data using the HydroServer user interface.
Deliverable
A one-page write up describing your effort on this assignment. What data did you collect? Where? How? Explain how you configured your HydroServer and why. What method did you use to enter your data? What is unique, if anything about your approach? Add an Appendix with figures captured from the HydroServer user interface (map and graph).
