For your semester project, develop a clear problem statement related to the collection, management, analysis, application, and/or presentation of geospatial data in a Civil and Environmental Engineering application. Your problem statement should identify the following:
- The problem or challenge that your team will address
- Why the problem/challenge is important
- What tools/software and data you may use
- What you expect your outcomes to be.
- Who might be interested in the work that you will do or your outcomes
I understand that you may not have detailed answers to these questions, but the purpose of the problem statement is for you to identify what your group will work on and to help determine the scope.
For more information on problem statements, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Problem_statement (Links to an external site.). Your problem statement should be one page or less, single spaced. It should have a title page that identifies a title for your project and the names of project participants. Problem statements will receive a score as part of your final project, and are required for successful completion of your final project.
The following is a suggested outline:
Introduction
- What is the problem or challenge your team will address?
- Why is the problem/challenge important?
Methods
- What tools/software will you use?
- What data will you use?
Expected Results
- What do you expect your outcomes to be?
- Who would be interested in your results?
Deliverable
Please upload your one-page problem statement with title page identifying all of your group members as a PDF document to Canvas. Only one student per group needs to upload a digital copy. Please also provide one hard copy of the problem statement to the instructor for grading.
