Principles - Reading & Essay

Following up from our lecture/discussion on Principles Links to an external site., and your reading assignment from last week, you are going to write a short essay reconciling the different examples of restoration principles and discussing how they apply to your project in the Logan River Crockett Reach. Specifically, compare and contrast:

Skim the following on restoration principles:

• Beechie et al.'s (2010 Links to an external site.) four Process-based principles for river restoration
• Cairn et al.'s (2012 Links to an external site.) three principles for ecological restoration
• Suding et al.'s (2015) Links to an external site.four principles for ecological restoration
• & Wheaton et al.'s (2019 Links to an external site.) ten LTPBR principles
• Wheaton 2019. Chapter 2 – Principles of Low-Tech Process-Based Restoration (Links to an external site.). In: J.M. Wheaton, S.N. Bennett, N. 

With reference to the Logan River CAP Links to an external site.and the Crockett Reach,  describe which of the above 21 principles apply and why or why not. 

Attempt to keep your text to 1000-2000 words. Feel free to use tables, figures or lists as you see fit to make the comparison.  Write this as a small persuasive essay (i.e. with thesis statement, adequate intro/background, supporting evidence and conclusion), a section on comparison of selected principles, and a section on relevance of principles to Crockett Reach restoration.
